Since 01 January 2023, employers are obliged to provide a minimum number of paid sick days annually.
The Statutory Sick Pay Scheme (SSP) is the legal minimum sick pay. If an employee is sick or injured and is unable to work, they are legally entitled to statutory sick pay.
For 2025 employees are entitled to 7 days sick pay. This is increased from 5 days in 2024 and 3 days in 2023.
In 2026 the number of days sick pay an employee is entitled to increases again to 10 days.
