As part of their latest Economic Recovery Plan the Government has announced that the CRSS, which was due to finish up at the end of June, has been extended through to 31 December 2021.

They also announced a further enhancement to the scheme in particular in relation to the Restart Week.

Under the enhanced scheme businesses reopening from 02 June can submit a single claim for a payment which will cover a period of three weeks at double the normal rate up to a maximum of €10,000 per week.

From 07 June restaurants can serve people outdoors. This means that they will have to decide when to claim their enhanced restart payment bearing in mind that once the restart payment is claimed the business no longer qualified for the CRSS scheme.

If their turnover from outdoor dining services is expected to exceed 25% of the average weekly turnover in 2019 (or in the case of a new business average weekly turnover in 2020) then they should proceed to claim their enhanced restart payment from 07 June meaning they will get a payment to cover the first three weeks of reopening at double the normal rate before being taken off the scheme.

If their turnover from outdoor dining services is expected to be less than 25% of average weekly turnover in 2019 (or in the case of a new business average weekly turnover in 2020) the business may wish to continue to claim their normal weekly CRSS payment with a view to claiming the enhanced restart payment when indoor dining resumes in full on 05 July.
