A: If you wish the tenant can be responsible for paying the water charge for the rental property. You will need to contact Irish water directly to explain this and instruct your tenant to do same. You should also instruct your solicitor/letting agent to include this in the lease agreement. If your tenant does not register with Irish Water the lease agreement will then give you the power to evict the Tenant on this basis.

To ensure your tenant registers, you can as the landlord of the property, contact Irish Water and provide the name of your tenant. Irish Water will then write to your tenant to invite them to register. This will ensure that you are no longer liable for water services charges whilst the tenant continues to be the occupant of the property.
