A: You will first need to register for income tax with Revenue. You must do this online using the Revenue Online Service – ROS, through the online eRegistration Service, if you are an individual who is currently registered for PAYE Anytime or an individual who is currently registered for ROS. If you are unable to register online you can register by submitting a paper TR1 form. This will however take longer than registering online and by doing this you may risk missing your income tax return filing date.

Once you have registered and have access via ROS you will then be able to prepare and file your tax return. By filing on line you will be able to avail of the extended deadline which is 12 November 2015. You will however need to make payment online at this point also for your 2014 liability and 2015 preliminary tax.

An easy way to speed up the whole process is to appoint an accountant as your tax agent. The accountant can have you registered for income tax in approximately 3 working days, at which point they will be able to assist in preparation and filing of your return. In choosing this option you are ensuring your registration goes through in a timely manner, before the deadline and that your affairs will be handled in a professional manner.
