From 01 January 2019, all employers will have to report payments to employees in line with a new regime known as “PAYE Modernisation”

Essentially employers will be required to report in “Real Time” from the above date. What that means is that you will be required to prepare and complete an online report for Revenue each and every time you pay your employees. For example, if you pay them weekly you will need to file an online return each week detailing their name, pps no., gross wages, taxes deducted along with other important information.

In preparation for PAYE Modernisation, Revenue is asking employers to submit a list of all current employees to Revenue through ROS. This will ensure that both Revenue and employer records are aligned, and employers are receiving the most up to date employee information to calculate their deductions.

It is important that you as an employer ensures the accuracy of the list of your employees before submitting it to Revenue.

Employees included on your list but not registered with Revenue as working with you will be marked as having started employment with you on Revenue’s records. Likewise, employees not included on your list but registered with Revenue as working with you will be ceased on Revenue’s records.

PAYE Modernisation will be a fundamental change in how payroll taxes are reported to Revenue. All employers should formulate a plan with their accountant now to ensure that they will be fully compliant come 01 January 2019.
