Ireland's small businesses look likely to be among those to increase job numbers in cloud computing after a new survey revealed it will become more popular over the next few years.

An EMC survey revealed that while 56 per cent of business leaders think the technology will create more jobs in the coming years, this figure grows to 65 per cent for Irish firms.

Furthermore, the research also found that half of Irish business leaders believe data scientist numbers will need to increase in the next few years as well.

Theo Lynn, a DCU lecturer and one of the leaders of the Irish Centre for Cloud Computing and Commerce, told the Irish Times: "There are going to be a lot of positions created within that space but I think the capacity to fill those positions is the issue."

Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said earlier this week that Ireland needs to increase technology specialist numbers from overseas to meet demand.
